How to read the awards directory
The directory splits honors into major awards and a longer list of other awards, each with the number of winner rows the site holds. The largest list is Player of the Week, with 2929 winners. The Most Valuable Player list holds 212 winners and the Cy Young Award 130, because most years name one winner per league.
A winner count is a count of rows, not of players: a repeat winner appears once for each year, and split awards such as the Gold Glove add one row per position. The Hall of Fame card links to the 353 inductees, grouped by induction year. Each award page lists winners newest first with year, team and league, names the first and most recent winners, and links every player to a profile where the award also appears. Award data comes from the Lahman database's awards tables plus later seasons, so modern awards start when they were first given and some short-lived honors have only a few rows. The major awards shown are ALCS MVP, All-Star Game MVP, Cy Young Award, Gold Glove, Most Valuable Player, NLCS MVP, Pitching Triple Crown, Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, Triple Crown, and World Series MVP. At the small end, lists such as Bob Feller Act of Valor Award - Patriot Award and This Year in Baseball Best Bounceback Player hold a single winner.
